My job is to anticipate issues and constantly look out for my organization’s interests. As an astute and experienced in-house counsel, I have developed a talent for spotting problems, trends and opportunities that could impact business operations long before they come to fruition. In fact, I frequently have already emailed my boss the answer to the question he is about to ask.

At GEICO, I have been promoted through roles of increasing responsibility and have been selected for leadership training based on my performance and keen understanding of business operations. Rather than letting legal issues become obstacles, I very quickly distill complex problems into actionable choices for management to achieve their goals.

As far as subject matter expertise, I have an extreme breadth of knowledge across most areas of legal concern, including contracts, complex commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, process improvement, technology, insurance and risk and litigation management.

Contracts: I routinely handle Software, Hardware, Professional Services, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, Data Licensing, Data Modeling, Artificial Intelligence, Marketing & Sponsorships, Events, Talent, Real Estate, and Aircraft agreements.

Regulatory Compliance: With GEICO licensed in all 50 states and D.C., I maintain awareness of regulations unique to each jurisdiction and provide targeted advice on the each as specific issues arise.

Process oversight & improvement: I implemented the legal department’s first matter management system and first dashboard that provided quantitative data to management to track all legal department work. The result was enhancement of business planning and budgeting and setting reasonable expectations for leadership.

Communications: A significant amount of website, email and customer communication is run by me for review in advance to being distributed to ensure compliance with, for instance, truth in advertising and to avoid liability.

Litigation: I manage outside counsel and determine legal strategy throughout the entire lifecycle of litigation, and have averted hundreds of millions of dollars in potential liability as well as recovering millions of dollars for the company by pursuing law suits.

Insurance: On a daily basis I field calls regarding insurance issues such as customer relations, compliance, policy and billing questions, contract and form reviews, and payment processing (EFTA, Reg E, NACHA, PCI).
